New Clarion Music was founded in Nashville in 1984 by Suzie Patton. Suzie had experienced success in the early 80's with songs recorded by Sylvia, Barbara Mandrell, and Charlie Pride. Being a songwriter at heart, Suzie continued to write while helping many aspiring songwriters and artists develop their writing, recording, and stage presence. Throughout the 1980s, New Clarion songs were recorded by artists such as George Strait, Skip Ewing, Johnny Duncan, and The Marcy Brothers.
The 1990s marked a golden era for New Clarion, with a string of hits, Gold and Platinum albums, and Grammy-winning songs. Travis Tritt, Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, Tracy Lawrence, Terry Clark, Tim McGraw, and Lorrie Morgan all recorded New Clarion songs. The most well-known songs from this period include "Does He Love You", "Midnight in Montgomery", and "If the World Had a Front Porch.".
As the 90's progressed, New Clarion moved into production and artist development. The 1995 album Rough Around the Edges by Betsy was an international success. Over time, New Clarion built a rich catalog of songs – many of which remain hidden gems for artist looking for classic country songs to add to their repertoire.
In the early 2000s, Suzie’s passion for storytelling led her into literary writing. After retiring in 2003, she spent her time traveling, writing, and exploring the world around her. Suzie shared her appreciation for music with her nephew Wade A Patton. Wade assumed ownership of New Clarion in 2024 and began the work of re-recording demos and reestablishing New Clarion's presence in country music.
